With just a few weeks left before school starts in South Florida, various organizations organize back-to-school events, and supplies are being collected to distribute to students in Palm Beach and Broward counties.

To help give back to the students, the state has a sales tax holiday that allows people to save on school supplies. During the holiday, which ends on August 6, there is no tax on clothes, school supplies, computers, and shoes.

While there are still many things to do, such as sleep in and stay up late, parents should also keep an eye on the back-to-school activities happening in the area. We've rounded up a few potential events for you to check out before the kids return to class!

East Side Dems Back to School Supply Drive and Happy Hour

If you're looking to donate to students this fall, consider stopping by this happy hour event with a bag of school supply donations...and get a drink or two while you're there. 

The Sunshine Health Orange Bowl Family Fun and Fit Day

The Family Fun & Fit Day event is held at Carter Park in Fort Lauderdale on August 12. It offers free haircuts and school supplies for kids aged 5 to 16. The event also features various activities and food trucks, and it's free to attend.

Back To School 5K / 10K - August 26, 2023

This run is a non-competitive event that will take place along A1A. It will feature a finish line clock, and participants will receive a finisher medal, club shirts, and signature bib. Registration is required for all individuals. 

Broward Health’s Back to School Jamboree

The Broward Health Back-to-School Jamboree will be held on August 12 from 9 am to 3 pm. It will feature a variety of activities and entertainment for the entire family. Free screenings and student immunizations will be provided for the organization's Mobilize to Immunize initiative.

Back to School Bookbag Giveaway and Vision Board Party

Students are invited to set goals for the upcoming school year and receive a complimentary book bag filled with school supplies. The event will feature three sessions.
